This Rape-murder accused escapes from custody: If seen by anyone, inform police immediately.

March 31: Hanumanthappa Bassappa Kambali, a native of Badami in Bagalkot district, currently residing in Kaup, was arrested on Saturday night for rape and murder of a teenager at Shivalli on March 9. Kambali was produced before the magistrate at latter’s house and was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. He escaped when he was being shifted to Hiriyadka jail.
If seen by anyone, immediately inform Udupi police. He is of dark complexion and around 5 foot tall. He was wearing green colour pant and thrown away the shirt.

Kambali had come in contact with the victim in the first week of March and had assured her to get a better job. He had taken her to a deserted area in Mudusagri where he sexually assaulted her. When the victim threatened to disclose the incident, he strangulated her to death using her shawl. The accused had gone absconding after the murder. A case was registered under Pocso Act in Manipal police station. Superintendent of Police Nisha James had formed three teams to trace Kambali.
