Three Teachers From Dakshina Kannada & Udupi Selected For State Government’s Best Teacher Award

Two teachers from Dakshina Kannada and one from Udupi have been selected for the state government’s Best Teacher Award. The teachers are Amitananda Hegde (primary teacher category), teacher at government higher primary school, Bangadi, Radhakrishna T (high school section), science teacher, government PU college, Koyyur, both in Belthangady taluk, and Sanjeeva Devadiga, teacher at a government lower primary school in Kervashe, Karkala taluk, Udupi district.

Radhakrishna has been selected for implementing first-of-a-kind initiatives in a school located in the remote village of Belthangady.

Amitananda Hegde has been selected for the development of the school and the use of teaching technology. Hegde is a native of Ujire. He has been teaching for the last 25 years. Over the years, with the help of the SDMC, local people and donors, he has  developed a school on a par with private schools. Hegde has been instrumental in bringing dropout students back to school and conducting classes for differently abled children by visiting their homes.

Sanjeeva Devadiga, who has been teaching students in the Naxal-affected area with no internet connectivity, took a bold step to ensure education to children during the pandemic. Realising that students will lose out on education for a long time, Devadiga convinced about 10-12 women graduate candidates to conduct classes at their homes. Daily classes, which later became popular as Akkana Shale, were attended by 15–16 students who stayed close to the graduate candidates’ houses.
