Time to Rejoice For All Seafood Lovers as Ban on Fishing Ends & Boats Are Back With Fresh Catch
The ban on deep sea fishing on Mangalore & Udupi districts for two months ended on July 31. The fishermen who had ventured into the sea from August 1, are returning with their prized catch from the deep sea to the Old Port, which is well known as Bunder/ Dhakke in Mangalore. The fishermen get the fresh catch which are being sold at reasonable rates and tickling the taste buds of fish lovers. Though fishermen were worried about the inclement weather, clear skies in August have brought cheer due to a good catch.
Bunder/Dhakke is now filled with workers unloading fish from boats to ice into boxes and trucks categorising the catch into varieties for domestic and export markets. This year’s main catch so far is seer fish, mackerel, sardines, cuttlefish, kite fish, tiger prawns and crabs. The rates are reasonable at best, about 20% cheaper, when compared to the prices of fish that were being sold during the
