Udupi District to set an example for taking this measure to solve water crisis

July 4: The zilla panchayat has instructed all 158 gram panchayats of Udupi district to have Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) systems by this year-end and has instructed all of them to prepare action plans.
Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer Sindhu Roopesh said implementing RWH systems in all GPs is necessary as water has to be saved or  face water crisis.
The district has three multi-level village drinking water projects, but none of them has been successful. Even though the vented dam is an option but it’s not reliable. The district has less government land and therefore new drinking water projects can’t be implemented.
The people of Udupi rely on wells for water and every individual should take step to implement the recharge system on his land. Water scarcity in the district has reached alarming levels, and therefore the GPs have to take the initiative and be a model to the public. The government has even ordered all new government constructions to have RWH systems.
