Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said that the Police department, in collaboration with the Udupi District Chamber of Commerce, has planned to install 601 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in 207 junctions in Udupi district. The project, will be implemented at an estimated cost of ₹2.5 crore will ensure the safety of citizens in the district. Border areas, areas prone to communal strife and vantage locations would be covered in the initial stage of implementation.

As many as 10 Automatic Number Plate Reader cameras would be installed at Mala, Hosmar and Sachharipete in Karkala rural police limits, Sanur in Karkala town police, Someshwara in Hebri police, Hosangadi in Amasebail police, Dali in Kollur police, Melgangolli in Gangolli police, Malpe Beach in Malpe police and City Bus Stand in Udupi Town Police station limits.

Further, 10 high-resolution cameras would be installed at Kalsanka and Karavali Junctions, Indrali Bridge, Santhekatte, Service Bus Stand, and old KSRTC Bus Stand in Udupi City Municipality limits, M. Kodi Junction, and Kandlur town in Kundapur subdivision, and Baradi and Naravi in Karkala subdivision limits. Jurisdictional police, as well as personnel at the district control room, would continuously monitor these cameras.
