Waste will not be accepted by the waste collectors from July 1: Click to know why

June 27: Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Narayanappa said that  waste segregation will start in Mangalore City Corporation jurisdiction from July 1.
Commissioner Narayanappa said that wet waste will be collected by the Antony Waste Handling Cell Private Limited on all days of the week except Fridays and the dry waste will be collected on Fridays. He mentioned that Corporation is all set to implement the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules 2016. As per this rule all the households and business establishments should segregate the waste at source. He warned that the  waste will not be accepted if the households hand it over to the waste collectors without segregating it. He even warned that fine will be imposed on those who dump waste beside the roads as per the sections of Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act 1976 and Solid Waste Management bylaws 2018 for municipalities and municipal corporations. The fine amount will vary from Rs 100 to Rs 25,000.
Along with this the commissioner mentioned that the sale of plastic has been banned and fine will imposed on those who are found guilty of selling banned plastics and also a case will be registered before the competent authority.
