Water shortage: Udupi CMC zones to get water once in 6 days:
May 11: Udupi Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said that water in Baje dam, across the River Swarna, had reached dead storage and water was being pumped from large ponds on the riverbed into the dam.
She said that earlier water was supplied to the residents in CMC limits once in three days but now due to the depleted water level in the dam the wards in CMC limits had been divided into six zones and each zone would now receive water once in six days.
A nodal officer has been appointed for all the 35 wards in the city and people can approach these nodal officers with their grievances pertaining to water and measures will be taken to supply water through water tankers. Even the water supplied through tankers will be restricted to 1,000 litres per house. The residents have to provide details in the trip sheet available with the tanker operator and sign it.
Korlapati even said that officials had been directed to prepare an action plan to float tender to remove silt accumulated at Baje dam. She had also issued directions to carry out a survey and float tenders to remove silt from the Rajakaluve (stormwater drains) in the city.
