Wenlock Hospital sees a rush at OPD as private hospitals remain closed for a day

June 18: As private hospitals and clinics closed down OPD (outpatient department), in response to a country-wide bandh call given by Indian Medical Association (IMA) and had expressed solidarity with the doctors protesting in West Bengal, the government hospitals in the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, particularly District Wenlock Hospital, were crowded with patients.
Dr Rajeshwari Devi, Wenlock Hospital Superintendent said that usually high number of patients visit the hospital on Mondays. but due to the protest by doctors in private hospitals, the number of patients who visited the Wenlock Hospital has doubled. Over 1,000 patients had availed OPD services in the hospital.
A notice was pasted on the doors of the private hospitals informing the nationwide strike by the doctors.
