Wenlock Hospital to get this new organ donation facilitation cell soon

May 5: ‘Jeeva Sarthakathe’, the organ donation facilitation cell replacing the Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka for Transplantation, is all set to function from the District Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore. After Bengalore, Hubballi and Kalaburagi Mangalore will be next to get this cell.
Dr Rajeshwari Devi, the Superintendent and District Surgeon at Wenlock Hospital said that the team to run ‘Jeeva Sarthakathe’ has already been trained and just a  licence on issuing brain death certification from the government is being awaited. Dr H Sudarshan Ballal, who has conducted a cadaver or organ transplantation operation in Karnataka for the first time in 1988 and also the chairman of Manipal Hospitals said that the organ donation facilitation cell in the hospital will benefit not less than 1,000 patients every year. Dr Ballal welcomed the government’s decision to set up four different zones to promote a sustained deceased donor (cadaver) transplantation programme in Karnataka state.
