Wenlock Hospital, a boon for Dakshina Kannada as well as other districts: Click to know why

July 3: Wenlock hospital having a history of 169 years, has a capacity of 1,000 beds. As much as 3 lakh out patients visit this hospital where the in patients are nearly 30000. The Hospital is seeing a phenomenal upgrade in recent years and patients from various locations including Shimoga, Chikkamagaluru, Davanagere, Kodagu, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Hassan are also seen coming here for treatment.
The state government under its Department of Medical Education has decided to provide super specialty (DM / Doctorate of Medicine) courses at even more government hospitals in the state. These the DM courses have been started at only 6-7 government hospitals under which 3 seats have been provided to Wenlock hospital at initial stage. More seats are expected to be added during future phases.
As a result, the number of seats for super specialist courses increase and there is a possibility to avail service from new doctors at Wenlock hospital. As per information, five super specialty courses like Urology and Pediatrics are expected be started after which the Wenlock hospital will play more important role in providing services.
