Work on Kulur Bridge Resumed: Focus is on Completing Atleast Half of The Bridge by March Next Year
Work on the Kulur bridge which resumed after several temporary halts, has resumed. The bridge construction works is focused on completing at least half of the bridge by March next year.
The NHAI is constructing a six-lane bridge alongside a new service road bridge to ease traffic flow from Udupi to Mangalore. Further on the left-hand side, a new service road bridge is proposed for traffic heading to Mangalore along with the main carriageway bridge. The existing bridge on the right-hand side will be rehabilitated and used as the service road for traffic heading to Udupi.
The total project length is 776m, while the main bridge and the service road bridges will be 182.5m long. The bridge construction is undertaken at an approximate cost of Rs 56 crore. The project works began in 2021, but were halted temporarily due to a dispute with the contractor. Protests were also held due to the inordinate delay in the completion of the Kulur bridge. Though work resumed in Dec 2023, there has not been much visible progress.
