Closure of Surathkal Toll Gate Unlikely to Happen Anytime Soon: Contract Extended Again

Surathkal toll gate near NITK which was set up by violating highway rules created several controversies and there was a demand by public to close it down. As per the rules say that the minimum distance between two toll gates should be 60 km, in this case, the NITK Surathkal toll gate is just 11 km away from Hejamady toll gate. This was imposed forcibly in the face of stiff resistance from the locals. Several protests were held to close down the toll gate.

Even after repeated promises to either merge or close the toll gate during the last several years, the toll gate was still functioning. However, it is learnt that the toll gate contract has been extended by three months.
