Is pavilion complex of Mangala Stadium a threat to Athletes?

June 18: The pavilion complex of Mangala Stadium in Mangalore is posing threat to athletes and others who are involved in sports activities. It is on the verge of collapse as plastering of the concrete slabs of the stadium pavilion has come off at many places.
The department of sports has temporarily covered the entire roof of the building with plastic sheets to prevent leaks. The government has decided develop the stadium complex through Mangaluru Smart City project.
Athletes, coaches and well-wishers have been demanding the immediately to repair, but the government has plans to develop the stadium through Smart City funding.
District minister UT Khader said though there were plans to repair the sports pavilion complex of the stadium using state funds, a new proposal has been added in the Smart City project. Minister Khader has already held discussion with officials of the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL). The MSCL will check possibilities of constructing commercial complexes on three sides of the stadium and thereby create a permanent source of income for the development and maintenance of the stadium.
