The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada on Tuesday, with a forecast of heavy rains (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The disaster management authorities of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have cautioned people against venturing out during the extremely heavy rains. Farmers have been asked not to go to their fields, while fishermen and tourists were warned against entering rivers and the sea.
In the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, Dakshina Kannada recorded an average of 11.1 mm rainfall. The cumulative rainfall recorded in Dakshina Kannada so far this year was 1,181.5 mm.
