Taxi Operators in Mangalore Claim KSRTC Festival Tour Packages as Illegal: What Are Your Thoughts on This?

Dakshina Kannada Taxi Men’s and Maxicab Association has claimed that the Mangalore KSRTC tour packages during festival as “illegal,” stating that it has severely affected their business. Dinesh Kumpala M, president of the association said that the taxi drivers were pinning their hopes on a positive season post covid 19 pandemic. However, KSRTC’s package tour during Dasara season, proved to be another blow, leading to poor business for taxi drivers. The KSRTC did not even take special permission from the RTO, to operate package tours.

Kumpala also objected to the mandatory yellow stickers on both sides of commercial vehicles, stating that they are costly for drivers. The order should be immediately withdrawn, or the drivers should be allowed to stick the yellow stickers wherever they want,” he said. The association will submit a memorandum to the DC, RTO and elected representatives, to set right these issues.

Rajesh Shetty, divisional controller, KSRTC, Mangalore, reacted and said that KSRTC need not seek any permission from the RTO, to conduct package tours during festivals and religious events. There is a provision for the same. Meanwhile, all the passengers are covered under insurance, he added.
