Mangalore city police have decided to seize Kerala-registered vehicles found violating traffic rules, especially those involved in rash and high-speed driving in a move to curb traffic violations. Cases of Kerala-registered vehicles flouting traffic norms are increasing in and around Mangalore. City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has instructed officials to seize such vehicles immediately if found violating traffic rules, and release them only after penalties are paid. Despite issuing notices based on CCTV footage, compliance has remained low.

90% of such vehicles reportedly belonging to students, primarily using two-wheelers. These students, studying in various colleges across the city and outskirts, are accused of reckless riding, posing safety hazards to the public. Incidents involving riding without helmets, triple riding, driving on the wrong side, and over-speeding are reportedly increasing. Violations also include use of tinted glasses in cars and aggressive driving.

With growing concern from residents, citing risks to local residents due to repeated violations, Mangalore police are now tightening enforcement measures to restore traffic discipline in the city.
