Mangalore gears up for grand Janmashtami celebrations. The city is preparing for an elaborate celebration of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, with temples and cultural organisations planning a series of religious, cultural and community-oriented programmes. The celebrations will feature a variety of devotional and cultural programmes aimed at spreading the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and making them accessible to the public.Two special exhibitions highlighting the life and mission of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder of ISKCON, will also be inaugurated during the festival. The temple will additionally host displays explaining the organisation’s philosophy and teachings.
Krishna vesha sparda will be held on September 4 at the premises of Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple and is being organised by Kalpavruksha Prathistana. The event aims to provide children with a platform to showcase their talents while encouraging cultural awareness and appreciation of traditional values. More than 3,000 participants are expected to take part in around 44 competitions, conducted simultaneously across 12 venues between 9am and midnight. The major group competitions will cover 16 categories, divided according to age groups and themes. Events will include competitions based on Krishna and other mythological characters, along with traditional performances such as dance, drama, Bharatanatyam, Yakshagana and other cultural art forms.
The Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Mosaru Kudike celebrations will be held on September 5 at the Nanda Gokula Vedike of Sri Manjunatha Temple Rajangana in Kadri. The day-long programme will begin with a traditional Yakshagana Bayalata performance from 11am to 4pm. This will be followed by the formal stage programme and musical performances in the evening. One of the biggest highlights will be the grand midnight procession featuring a sandalwood idol of Lord Krishna decorated with silver ornaments, marking the birth of Lord Krishna. Mosaru kudike and Krishna Vesha Sparde has been organized at several places in the city.
